I like this dress. I have gained weight, but this dress is elegant, modern, and slimming. I dislike the half slip as it rides up so I had it cut at the waist. I also thought the train was too much and had that cut off. I'm happy to have found this dress!!!
Ordered the gown a size up so I could have it tailored to fit me perfectly, the sleeves were long and the train was a bit much so had that brought in a bit. Lots of compliments, the dress is very slenderizing. I am a size 14. Threw on a pair of Spanx and had a very slim, lean look. One slight drawback, there is a liner on the inside that only goes to your thigh and it rode up constantly all night. Wish I had known, I would have had that taken care of during my alterations.
Nice, but only if you're 6’ 2" and live in the States!
As many other customers say, the gowns are VERY long. Have no idea why. Even as a tall women I had to shear at least 4" off the length. Not ideal as I am not a trained seamstress and would have preferred not to have to perform surgery on a costly garment. On the other hand, I am always a UK size 18 -but had to go up a size and don't know whether it's because of the conversion chart or whether TS clothes are cut smaller.
Non US customers should also know that the UK import tax and duty costs are enormous, adding about 35% to the cost. Worse, TS have no real mechanism for returns from Europe and how customers can reclaim the taxes. They really should also provide a returns label so private customers can use a courier, but they don't. It took me about 4 days of trying courier companies (which all expect customers to have accounts, be companies and know the drill about import and export) before I gave up and used the post. Painful, and I still don't know if I'm going to get the $170 tax and duty back.
On the plus side, the dress is very nicely made and looks good. Very nice to find an evening dress that has long sleeves but is still very elegant. So, yes, I am pleased with it but the hassle of getting, returning and re-ordering, not to mention still being well out of pocket, has taken most of the pleasure away. Apparently Fenwick now stock some designs. I certainly would never buy from TS in the U.S. again.
