The Inspiration Behind Spring 2023

A dove takes off into the spring wind. The wind is formidable and ferocious, for it must drive out winter, but the dove is small and determined and rides the wind, using peace to navigate. For Spring / Summer 2023, we cast our eyes skyward and hitch our dreams to feathered wings. Because when doves fly, peace is within reach, and hope is infinite.

When the spring wind eases to a breeze, the dove, who has flown from rubble and hardship, reaches a sky washed with translucent color—color evident in wind-blown gowns crafted from bias-cut strips of pinks and creams layered to make wispy hues.

As the dove flies, it sends sparks of love that shimmer and catch the light. Dresses with matte sequin stripes cut close to the body are streamlined and aerodynamic, and crochet lace insets mimic feathered articulation. The dove’s in-flight silhouette is abstracted into style lines. Its flight pattern inspires draped asymmetric bodices and sculptural flounces while pleated chiffon is creased on the bias to create light-as-air trapeze shapes.

The dove sails the gentle wind with simple ease, coasting over sprout-green fields where flowers bloom in rocky crevasses, roses tumble over fences, and dormant buds burst into leaf. These new beginnings and blossoms of hope translate to floor-length gowns cut from embroidered netting with allover appliquéd painterly flowers.
